The early days of women’s cricket was reportedly contested “between eleven maids of Bramley and eleven maids of Hambledon, all dressed in white”. This presents a very different story from to what we see today.
North Yorkshire has a strong tradition in women’s cricket having formed the original women’s only club called the White Heather Club in 1887 near Appleton Roebuck.
The evolution is constant. Currently in North Yorkshire we have a number of teams who play in the ECB Northern Women’s League alongside teams who also play in the evening Nidderdale Ladies Cricket League in and around the Harrogate area.
North Yorkshire W&G Cricket is keen to support any existing or new club looking to setup a women’s section and would like to hear from anyone looking for support in doing so via our contact page.
